Purpose and Form

The questions have two main purposes:

a) To require the listener to provide information 

b) To request clarification 

Additional purposes:

c) To express surprise or interest. In this case both the main verb and the question tag are in the affirmative!

Tags are formed using auxiliaries.

(Afirmative Sentences. Negative Tag.)

(Negative Sentences. Afirmative Tag)

Eg.

They play soccer, don’t they?

You stole the store, didn’t you?

Marina wasn’t a good person, was she?
